As we’re a fast-growing recruitment specialist based in London’s Canary Wharf, the careers of our candidates and the challenges of our clients always lie at the heart of our work. Furthermore, our mission is to invest in our people – expert consultants who all work towards a mutual goal: placing extraordinary talent in perfect roles at the right time.

We believe in nurturing raw talent, and are always looking for vibrant, passionate individuals to join our team. So, it was a concern to learn from studies that 78% of 16-24 year olds struggled with job hunting (Totaljobs Employment Index 2016), in a market where graduate job vacancies had reportedly fallen by 8% (Association of Graduate Recruiters). With this in mind, we felt it was time to extend our philosophy to more young people.

So in September 2016, we took Kingsley Hamilton People to ambitious new heights with the launch of our Talent Academy. This welcome initiative offers prospective trainees a mix of mentoring, on-the-job training, and core skills plus knowledge needed to kickstart a lucrative career with us.

The journey to recruitment is a refreshing experience. At least, with KH People it is. The aim of our Talent Academy is to discover and develop the talent of tomorrow. And this journey first began when a host of talent came together as we held our group assessment stage.

Initially, our team found it hard to select a final 16 from the hundreds of applications received. But it was a real treat to witness a high calibre of answers for each of the group and individual tasks. The candidates truly embraced the opportunity to apply and improve their transferable soft skills.

We kicked off with a brief meet & greet, followed by a series of icebreakers and the main event which was also attended by four members of senior staff – including our CEO and Managing Directors.

Assessment day

From handling traditional client and candidate scenarios, to tackling interactive tasks with the power of lateral thinking, our 16 semi-finalists connected with, bounced ideas off, and learnt from one another. In turn, they honed their listening, communication, and presentation skills to structure well-thought out answers – all delivered with ease and confidence.

We believe that this fun, relaxed environment helped showcase everyone’s full potential. And the success of this approach also gives rise to the idea that assessment days don’t need to be intimidating in order to be challenging and productive.

Following the excitement of seeing our first assessment day unfold, we invited 11 candidates to join us for the final stage of our recruitment process: a brief presentation and a face-to-face interview. From this, we appointed six people to join Kingsley Hamilton People as Trainee Recruitment Consultants via Talent Academy.
